The Smart Battery installation only support Windows XP 32 bit, Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit only. At this writing, Windows 7 is not supported yet (I confirmed for 64 bit version is not supported).
Smart Battery hardware can be identified by ACPI\CPL0002 (Compal Embedded System) id. The latest driver is version 1.0.0.12.
First, install the Smart Battery software. After the installation, the driver for the above hardware is still unknown.
Next, open Device Manager and locate the hardware and choose to update the driver. Do not use automatically search for driver, instead browse the driver at My Computer. Select C:\ProgramData\Vista64 for the driver location. Subtitutes C: with your SystemDrive and the Smart Battery can work under Windows 7.
If you’re using the 32 bit version of Windows 7, The Smart Battery driver is located at C:\ProgramData\Vista32.

Hi,
on my computer there is no such folder after I have installed the Driver. In the Device Manager one device is shown with an exclamation mark (ACPI\CPL0002 (Compal Embedded System)) and it says the driver has to be re-installed.
But when I do so the assistant says that the driver has already been installed! What is this?
On the other hand I already can enter Smart Battery via the Control Panel!

Try to remove the device in the Device Manager, then reinstall the Smart Battery software. The lastest driver can be found at http://www.compal.com/Download/NB/JFT00/drivers/Application/SmartBattery/20070810_CplSMB_V1.0.0.12_Release/.

Thanks for your quick reply! I am afraid your method does not work for me, that’s what I did:
1) Uninstall the device in the Device Manager.
2) Ran the setup file. It said it would uninstall the Smart Battery software, which was fine, so I continued and rebooted.
3) The Smart Battery icon in the Control Panel was gone but the unknown device had reappeared in the Device Manager. I uninstalled it once more.
4) Ran the setup file, installed Smart Battery and rebooted.
Results:
- The Smart Battery icon is back in the Control Panel.
- The unknown device is back to the Device Manager.
- I still can’t find any “Vista64″ folder.
Have you got any further ideas so far? I want to re-install Windows anyway but I would be happy if I could eliminate all unknown devices from the beginning this time!

The driver should be located at your SystemDrive:\ProgramData\Vista64, but if you can’t, you can pick the driver from http://numpang.bkdjombang.com/files/windows/SmartBatteryDriver.7z.

Thanks a lot for your help!
I downloaded your file and chose the folder when I was trying to update the driver. But it always tells me that the optimal driver is already installed which doesn’t prevent the system from setting an exclamation mark.
Maybe it will work after re-installing Windows…

I am using a Win7 (64 bits) pre-installed Laptop. I installed Smart Battert Driver, but I cannot find the device in Device Manager.
First, under “Batteries”, there is “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery”. Is this a device that you refer to ACPI\CPL0002? Or should there be specifically a device recognized as ACPI\CPL0002?

Does Device Manager shows unknown device? If yes, just look at the hardware id. It should say ACPI\CPL0002.
